trouble installing ncl_ncarg-5.2.1.Linux_x86_64_gcc346.tar.gz

I'm trying to install NCL (ncl_ncarg-5.2.1.Linux_x86_64_gcc346.tar.gz)
on my linux machine, which has the following OS and compiler:

ironman: ncl_gcc346 ? uname -a
Linux ironman 2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp #1 SMP Tue Feb 27 09:40:21 EST 2007
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

ironman: ncl_gcc346 ? gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-3)

but I get the following error when trying to invoke the interactive shell:

ironman: bin ? ncl
ncl: /lib64/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.0.0' not found (required by ncl)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
