NCL-talkers,

Thanks to Mateus Teixeira for taking the existing online NCL
documentation and creating a set of files local to one's
host, suitable for viewing in any browser. He has graciously offered
this to the NCL community. It is now available via
anonymous ftp from the UCAR anonymous ftp site.

To obtain a copy from a shell:

ftp ftp.ucar.edu

login as user "anonymous" (no quotes)
password is your email address

at the "ftp> " prompt, type: cd ncl

You may list the contents of the directory (using the "dir" command)
if you wish. The file to download is: nclDocs.tar.gz
To download the file, type: get nclDocs.tar.gz

This will download the NCL HTML documentation to your local host.

To finish your ftp session, type: exit

To obtain a copy via a web browser:

Go to ftp://ftp.ucar.edu
Click on the "ncl" folder icon
Download the file nclDocs.tar.gz

The file nclDocs.tar.gz is a compressed tar file. To uncompress,
type: gunzip nclDocs.tar.gz
This will leave you with the file nclDocs.tar To extract the HTML
documentation, type: tar xvf nclDocs.tar

This will (verbosely, so you can monitor progress) extract NCL HTML
documentation into a directory named 'ncl_documentation'

The starting file to view is: ncl_documentation/www.ncl.ucar.edu/
Documentation/index.html

Please note that this is provided "as is," at least for the time
being. The NCL team will further discuss this issue in the near
future with regard to the future of providing offline documentation.

Please contact me directly with any questions.

-Rick.
