need a color fill plot that does not smooth/interp between values - ie patchwork quilt

Hi folks,
I need to plot constant values over a domain broken up into tiles
I'd like to get it to look like a patchwork quilt of different colors but
gsn_contour seems to interpolate or smooth between tiles and hence look
ragged
on edges of what should be rectangular tiles (discontinuous values).
Is there some switch I can turn on/off ?
Or a limited # of colors to use?
