xterm text colors

Hi all,

I would like to have the text in my NCL scripts highlighted the way that
xterm does for scripts written in other languages (e.g.: mine is setup
to highlight bash script text in different colors, depending if it is a
comment, a variable, etc).

Does anyone know how I can set this up?

I don't know if there is a command that is universal to all platforms,
but just in case it's not, I'm using X11 on OSX 10.4.
