I am having no success building from source:
Again, ./configure step is successful but after that....:-(
bash-3.2$ cd netcdf-3.6.2
bash-3.2$ make install
make: Nothing to be done for `install'.
bash-3.2$ make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
bash-3.2$

I will try Takeshi's suggestion with Macports, now.
