getind_latlon2d

When I try using the function getind_latlon2d, it always fails, with
the following error:

fatal:Conditional statements (if and do while) require SCALAR logical
values, see all and any functions
fatal:Execute: Error occurred at or near line 8538 in file
$NCARG_ROOT/lib/ncarg/nclscripts/csm/contributed.ncl

I am not sure why is is referring to logical values. I am supplying
floating latitude and longitude values,
both 2D and 1D, as the function requires.

Any help would be appreciated,
