This is a good question, one that I'll add to the FAQ.

The top tickmarks by default are controlled by whatever is going on
with the
bottom tickmarks. So, if you turn off the bottom tickmarks, this will
affect the
top tickmarks as well.

To control the top tickmarks separately, you need to set:

     res_at_tmXUseBottom = False
