type of arguments to get1Dindex

Dear Dennis,

I have a question about the arguments of get1Dindex. In your
function definition, as listed below:

 function get1Dindex (cv[*]:numeric, cvWant[*]:numeric)

the type of arguments should be numeric. Any reason for this restriction.
Can other types such as character and string be also used? If so, could
it be modified.
