Hello,

The response from WRF is as follows:

"WRF-NMM has no direct path to use NCL. Not sure if/when this may be
available.
  At the moment the only way is through WPP and copygb as the user
mentioned."

The following may be too cumbersome but you could possibly
mimic the WRF netCDF output.

[1] Use "ncl_convert2nc" on the grib files.
[2] Use the netCDF operators [NCL] or Climate Data Operators [CDO]
      to change the NCL generated names to the WRF variable names.
      This could be done on with selected variables.
