I wrote a 2D trajectory calculation and plot script long time ago. It uses
Peterson Method. If you interested in please let me know. So, I can send
you the code. Unfortunately, it may not work with all data sets but you
can use as a starting point. Simple outputs can be found in following

I am not aware of any NCL scripts to compute 4D trajectories.
If you get any, let us know. Perhaps they could be built-in to NCL.
