Hello,
There are two NCL functions that deal with NAN's, isnan_ieee and
replace_ieeenan:

http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Document/Functions/Built-in/replace_ieeenan.shtml

Note the Important Note section on each of the above pages, as caution
is warranted when using these functions...
