Maybe x[*][*]
    xx = rcm2points (lat2d, lon2d, x, lat, lon, 0)

where lat and lon are 1-dimensional [*] and contain the lat and lon
values of the target grid.

This could be slow.

Then take the resulting grid xx[*] and use onedtond to get what you want.
