the nice thing about netCDF is reading it.
The creation of netCDF can be tedious. "Somebody"
must create all the information.

You must be much more specific than this.
How did you create the binary file? fortran sequential/direct?
C stream binary? NigEndian or LittleEndian? etc

You could read the binary file directly in ncl
fbinrecread/fbinrecread/cbinread/... and use the
directly.
