Hi Wei,

So release 6.0.0 will not support accessing variables in groups? Actually this is the first nc4 feature we want to try.

If so, what release you're aiming for to get groups and other variable types included?

It's nice to hear from you again.

Fan,

The current NCL release (6.0.0) supports compression (decompression is automatic when reading),
and chunking (at file or variable level). We are documenting these features, which should be available soon.

We are working on other NetCDF4 features like: string variable, group, vlen, enum, compound, and opaque, etc.
The works of reading these kinds of data are near finished,
but writing these data types may take longer.

So we hope in the near feature, which we can provide a beta version to some of our users
(and eventually to all users).
