I never heard back from the person who posted the problem you linked to below, so I'm not sure if a solution was found.

Would you be able to send me the era40.f90 file, and a sample NCL script that calls it?

What does the following report on your system, and which NCL binary did you download?

    uname -a
    which WRAPIT
    which ncl
    ncl -V
