I asked Dave Brown about this offline, and he responded with:

1) vcRefAnnoFontHeightF
2) vcRefAnnoPerimOn ; turn it off if you want to use less space
3) vcRefAnnoPerimSpaceF ; adjust the margin around the text and arrow
4) change the text or eliminate one or the other of the text strings.
( vcRefAnnoString1On, vcRefAnnoString1, vcRefAnnoString2On, vcRefAnnoString2)
