Plotting maximum line in 2D map

Hi,
I have a 2D map (lat/lon) and would like to use a line to indicate the lat-lon evolution of the maximum (also minimum) values. In the example plot attached, the line I mean should (reading from eastern part of the map) run from around 10S towards latitude 0 and towards the west. I notice the dim_max functions kill dimensions. Is there any other function to calculate this directly.
Thanks in advance,
Hyacinth
