Hi,
I have not done an overlay for Google Earth, but I have for Google Maps.
I suspect that the technology is similar.
My basic technique is to produce 3 images (or more accurately 4, but
only 3 are used at any one time). These comprise the contour plot, a
title, and a label bar. They are output as separate files, and viewed
via a javascript enabled web page.
