The data file is generated by MODIS Reprojection Tool by USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center, and it is raw binary file.

Thanks

"Unsigned byte" is the name of a data type. It does not tell us
anything about the file format. What is your file format? Something
like Netcdf, Fortran binary, flat binary, Grib, HDF5, etc.??? Please
see the NCL documentation for "supported file formats".
