Hello all,

while I trying to use the RANGS I still have the same problem. The error
message is the following:

fatal:MapRGDHDrawMapList: MDRGOL/MDRGOF - ERROR OPENING RANGS/GSHHS CAT FILE
fatal:PlotManagerPostDraw: error in plot post-draw
fatal:_NhlPlotManagerDraw: PostDraw error

Accoding to the FAQ this is due the program not locating the RANGS files
but I Have made sure to download again and saving them all in the same
folder as $NCARG_ROOT/lib/ncarg/datasabe/rangs

I am using LInux MInt which runs based on Ubuntu. I used the binaries from
the 64 bit Debian. My machine is 64 bit. My gcc version of 4.7
But the NCL works fine so I dont think it is related to the compiler at
all...

I have also tried setting the NCAR_RANGS environment variable to see if
that would help, but I had the same error. If I
