Re: Error while accessing RANGS, please respond

Dear all,

I am trying to use the RANGS for making a high resolution contour with some
coast lines and I get the following error:

fatal:MapRGDHDrawMapList: MDRGOL/MDRGOF - ERROR OPENING RANGS/GSHHS CAT FILE
fatal:PlotManagerPostDraw: error in plot post-draw
fatal:_NhlPlotManagerDraw: PostDraw error

At the end I do get my plot but the coast lines are not there, and all the
text, labels, colour bar, and headings disappear. Nevertheless, I do not
get this error if I use the lower resolutions.

I look into FAQ and the error correspond to the program not finding the
RANGS. I made sure to downloaded them several times again just in case they
were corrupted, and they are located in:
$NCARG_ROOT/lib/ncarg/database/rangs

All of them are in the same folder, and have read and write permissions.

In addition, I also tried using the $NCARG_RANGS environment variables but
that did not help either.
In case my binaries were corrupted, I downloaded them again from the ncl
6.1.2 gcc4.4.5 - 64 bit Debian tar file. My machine is 64 bit and runs
LInux MInt 15 OLivia, which is based on Ubuntu. My gcc is 4.7 though, but I
don’t think that is a problem other wise other plots wouldn’t come out.

If any of you have an idea on what could be happening, I would appreciate
the collaboration.
Have a nice day or evening depending on your time zone.

Sincerely,
ALberto
