You might take a look at Nasa's Blue Marble imagery, or the 3rd party True Marble:

  http://www.unearthedoutdoors.net/global_data/true_marble/download

There are individual images with about 10x the resolution you mentioned; even higher resolution can be obtained if you are able to stitch subtiles together.
