    Not a good idea. There's no requirement in GRIB files for
    the first 4 bytes to be "GRIB." In fact, many GRIB files
    from NCEP include a WMO header prepended to them (really old
    ones used to have EBCIDIC headers before the first occurrence
    of GRIB).
