    regarding C based shared objects.

    However, I want to call your attention to the
    NCL function "nice_mnmxintvl"

    This finds "nice" min/max/contour-intervals using the
    same arguments you have below.

    This function can be useful when a user wishes to create a common min/max/interval that will be used for many plots [eg, for paneling].

    Also, there is a contributed.ncl function ("symMinMaxPlt") that uses the function to get symmetric contour limits [eg: -14 to +14] for use when using, say, BlWhRe color map.
