Jim,
I would use ndtooned and onedtond to reshape your array:
B2 = ndtooned(B) ;convert to 1D
B3 = onedtond(B2,(/nt,nl,olat,olon/)) ;convert to 4D
or
B3 = onedtond(ndtooned(B),(/nt,nl,olat,olon/))
As far as not wanting xcoord/ycoord to be included as attributes in the .nc
file, you should be able to just delete the attributes:
delete(B3@xcoord)
delete(B3@ycoord)
a = addfile("test.nc","c")
a->B3 = B3
