In the next release of NCL, we are pleased to announce that yes, you
will be able to import arguments from the command line in NCL. We
will make a more formal announcement soon, but here's what a simple
    case will look like:

        ncl i=1 x=3.14 'title="Hello, World"' scripts.ncl

You can see some documentation at:

         http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Document/Manuals/Ref_Manual/NclCLO.shtml

If anybody is interested in helping us alpha test this, we can give
you a version now. Just email me personally, haley@ucar.edu.
