Re: NCL error when runing WRFSI GUI

Hi Alex,

Just a small correction to Rick's email is in order: the NCAR Graphics
software (i.e. NCAR Graphics libraries, "ncargex" command, NCAR
Graphics examples, etc) is actually *not* included with the release of
NCL. The only way to download NCAR Graphics is via the NCAR Graphics
website that Rick pointed out in #1 below. This is because NCL and
NCAR Graphics are under separate license agreements.

If you are really nervous about downloading NCL and NCAR Graphics
separately, then I can tar up a special NCL and NCAR Graphics for
you, and give you a beta version to try out. It's pretty stable.

For everybody: if you are only planning to use NCL, you don't need to
download NCAR Graphics. The NCL download has everything you need in
order to run NCL.

If, however, you need to use both NCL and NCAR Graphics, then you will
need to download each package separately. You can then install them to
the same root directory ($NCARG_ROOT), or you can install them to
different directories, but then you will need to change your
NCARG_ROOT environment variable accordingly depending on whether you
are using NCL or NCAR Graphics, and you will also need to update your
search path to include the $NCARG_ROOT/bin path. The latter method
is *not* a recommended way to do this. I prefer installing everything
to the same $NCARG_ROOT.
