Hi Thierry,

I'm not sure why the "pdf" workstation produces such large plots.
However, you might want to use the "newpdf" workstation; I tried it on
the natural_earth shapefiles, and the resulting PDF was only 20K (and
I too got a 4MB file when using "pdf").
