Hi Rich,

We do have a couple of examples of using the polygon routines to fill geodesic-type grids. See http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/icon.shtml. Admittedly this is more work and slower than it would be if cell fill of mesh type grids were enabled, but it should be possible to plot HOMME grid cells in a similar fashion. It has been on my own mental to-do list for a long time, but I will create a formal ticket for it to help generate some momentum for implementing this feature. Unfortunately it's not going to be in the immediate future -- but hopefully within a release or two.
