after some testing i foundthat if I set
res@mpMaxLatF = 88.5 instead of res@mpMaxLatF = 90 the left blank line disappeard
the only way to avoid the center blank line is do add grids resources
res@mpGridAndLimbOn = True ; turn on grid lines
res@mpGridLineDashPattern = 10 ; lat/lon lines dashed

but there is a way to not diplayng the grid in the black rectangle?

Ugo,
I couldn't reproduce the problem if I went to PDF output. Can you change your gsn_open_wks call to go to a PDF file, and then sent me the PDF file so I can compare?
