dictionary-like object

Hi,

Does NCL have any kind of dictionary-like object? I have written a function which returns a lot of diagnostic variables. Currently this is returned as a list, but I would like to be able to access these by name. e.g. variables['SST'], variables['Rib']. Is this possible?
