Fedora Core 2 and zonal averages (unrelated)

All,

I've got two questions I hope someone has already solved...

1. Does anyone have any experience with NCL on Fedora Core 2? I have
ncl-4.2.0.a030/ and ncl-4.2.0.a031/ installed on my machine along with a
DODS enabled version which I assume is based on a031. Everything worked
fine in Fedora Core 1 but since I've upgraded nothing works anymore. In
FC2 the problem first manifests itself when I try to load any of the
script libraries like gsn_code.ncl. Any ideas about this or, if not
what information should I collect to trouble shoot this problem?
In Fedora Core 1, the gcc version is
gcc (GCC) 3.3.2 20031022 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.2-1)
and in FC2 it's
gcc (GCC) 3.3.3 20040412 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.3-7)
The kernel is up to date in both FC1 and FC2.

2. OK so now I've rebooted into the FC1 kernel just to get a plot done.
Everything works fine, I just don't know how to use the
res@gsnZonalMean = True ; add a zonal mean
resource very well. Is there a way to specify the ticks on the x axis
for the zonal mean plot?

Thanks for your insight...
