error line minus 1

A question from an NCL newbie:

This is the first time I have run into a syntax error on line -1. I cannot
find a line -1 in my code. It starts on line 1. Any idea why I'm getting
an error on line -1? I have tried cutting and pasting the code into a new
file and still get the same problem.
