map with cities&topography

Dear all,

I plan to draw the Asia map (0:60N, 80E:240E) with cities names and also the physical features of a place, such as desert, etc.). For the former part, I will use the polymarker (gsn_text) to add the cities names. Does this make sense to you? Could anyone give me some hints for the second part?
