Eric,

NCAR Command Language Version 4.2.0.a034 (for Tiger) seems to work
after upgrade.
I did a clean install of Leopard and NCL is a copy from a back up.

I use MacPorts to manage packages (another choice being Fink).
My MacPorts installation is, again, a copy from a back up.

I rebuild netcdf-3.6.2 (sudo port build netcdf) without any problems.

As far as I remember you need, for example, -Df2cFortran in CPPFLAGS.
