Building NCL: ncargpath: Command not found

Hello,

I'm trying to build NCL-5.0.0 from source code on a Linux system,
following the installation instructions by the letter. In section
"Customize NCL build environment", I am supposed to run ymake in
$NCARG/config. This invocation produces:

-bash-3.00$ ./ymake
ncargpath: Command not found.
./ymake : Unable to find NCARG_CONFIG dir

The command ncargpath seems to be both built by ymake and required by
ymake. A chicken-and-egg problem?
