If it's shell-related, it's almost certainly an environment variable
issue. Sean, can you send the results of the 'env' command? That'd
allow someone to see if you've got appropriate environment variable set.

I muddle through essentially the shell-of-the-day. As long as
/etc/csh.login and /etc/profile have appropriate environment settings. I
just see things work. I also tend to use app-specific profiles when I
do something strange, but my use of NCL is pretty much the norm, so
we've incorporated these into system-wide scripts.

The pdf workstation creates perfect images, so I know that I'm coding it correctly. A "blank white" x11 window pops up, and cycles normally when I click it, until all plots are "displayed", and then closes. I tried the command "xeyes" to make sure x11 was working properly, and it did it's normal thing. As a side note, I'm not using CYGWIN (though that installation on another PC works great), but Ubuntu Linux (version 7.10). Any ideas?
