Kai,

You want to use the resources "mpFillAreaSpecifiers" and
"mpSpecifiedFillColors" You use the first resource to indicate an
array of strings of the areas (countries) you want filled, and the
second resource to give color index or names for each item in
mpFillAreaSpecifiers.

See example 4 at:

   http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/mask.shtml

You need to go to:

   http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Document/Graphics/Resources/mp.shtml#mpFillAreaSpecifiers

to determine what strings you can use for the countries. It depends
on whether you are using the low or medium resolution map database.
These resources don't work with the high resolution database.
