Hi Gary,
Assuming you are using the gsn interface try this:

     wks_type = "png"
     wks_type_at_wkWidth = 900 # or whatever
     wks_type_at_wkHeight = 900
     wks =gsn_open_wks(wks_type,"output_file_prefix")
