Draw a gsn_csm_contour_map without drawing the map

Dear All,

This is a strange question, i admit. But how is one to use
gsn_csm_contour_map to plot the data on a Mercator projection, but
not have the map drawn. What I mean is that I want just the data
to be shown on the final output, but don't want any information
related to the map (coastlines etc).

Just to let you know what I am trying, I am checking the possibility
of overlaying some climate data (rendered by NCL) on a Google Map (a Mercator
projection).
