gsn_csm_contour_map and labelbars

I modified the example proj_1.ncl on the website under
"gsn_csm_contour_map" to plot Alaska instead of the Mollweide
projection in the example.
When I did that, I no longer got a labelbar on the plot. Am I doing
something wrong or is that routine only intended for full world plots?
