Problems reading a .grib2 file

I am trying to read a .grib2 file using NCL 5.1 binaries under Centos 5.2.
Using ncl_filedump, I get the following output:

I am able to dump the contents of the file if I use wgrib2.
The user having this problem reports that the ncl_filedump
command works correctly when running NCL 5.1 on his Mac.

Any ideas of where to start?
