Mark,

It has never been possible to have more than one PDF workstation open
at the same time. In your code snippet, if you are wanting to plot
several frames in a single PDF output file, then you would want to put
the

   wks = gsn_open_wks(plot_type,...)

before the loop. If you are wanting to produce a sequence of
individual PDF plots, then you should put:

   destroy(wks)

before the frame call (recall that some gsn functions call frame
internally).
