ISO guidance on using linint2

I am using linint2_Wrap to interpolate a 2-degree grid to a 0.5-degree grid.
Would it be better to do this step-wise (e.g. 2-deg -> 1-deg -> 0.5-deg)?
Also, should I worry about topographic effects on temperature in regions of
varied relief (e.g. western US)?

Any guidance, opinions, or insight would be appreciated,
