wrapit error

Why does the following very simple fortran script result in the
following error
when I use wrapit (vs. 030422) on it?

C NCLFORTSTART
         subroutine notaro(scf)
C NCLEND
         stop
         end

ld: WRAPIT.o: relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not
be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
WRAPIT.o: could not read symbols: Bad value
