Dear Kalim,

In Addition to Wei Huang's suggestion, I would like to point out that
your soil moisture variable is in short format and you can change the
formate of your variable using "short2flt" function from the web page
http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Document/Functions/Contributed/short2flt.shtml
