Markers in the firt column on a stand-alone legend don't show up

I created a stand-alone legend using calls to gsn_polymarker_ndc and
gsn_text_ndc following NCL example 7 (leg_7.ncl) but somehow the
markers in the first column don't show up or only partly show up no
matter how I tried. I attached my script and the plot in eps format to
this message. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to
fix the problem.
