Extrapolation is always problematical.

Look at: http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/grid_fill.shtml

In particular, examples 3 & 4

1. try using "poisson_grid_fill"

http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Document/Functions/Built-in/poisson_grid_fill.shtml

on the CAM data.

2. then use rgrid2rcm
