nc file open error

Hi,

Could someone help me please with the following - I try to open a nc file using ncl but though the file is in NC format ( is taken from Earth System Grid, CCSM model runs or run by myself using CCSM) I get the following message :

atal:NetCDF: Unknown file format
fatal:Could not open (/data/oldfarm2/colfi/cam3.1.p2/daily_b30030b_CCSM/b30.030b.cam2.h1.TAUX.1880-01-01_cat_1889-12-31.nc)

Is very confusing since the file in nc format (is written on the site and I can see the information in it using ncdump so I suppose is a an nc file).
Where this error then could come from ?
