Arnold,

There's not enough information to go on here. What version of NCL do you have? You can type on the UNIX command line:

   ncl -V

Did you do a "printVarSummary" on the input and output variables for month_to_annual to see what's going in and what's coming out?

Are you getting any other errors from your script?
